Bilal, un joven de 17 años procedente del kurdistán iraní, ha cruzado el Oriente Próximo y Europa para reunirse con su novia recién emigrada a Inglaterra. Pero su recorrido se detiene bruscamente cuando, en el lado francés, le impiden cruzar el Canal de la Mancha. El joven decide entonces cruzar el canal a nado, nada menos que 32 kilómetros soportando enormes corrientes. Para cumplir su objetivo, empieza a entrenarse en la piscina municipal. Allí conoce a Simon, un profesor de natación en pleno proceso de divorcio. Simon está dispuesto a hacer lo que sea para recuperar a su mujer, y lo arriesga todo ofreciendo protección a Bilal…
